Butch Jones is an ex-Tennessee head coach.

If you had Tennessee firing Butch Jones in Week 11 of the 2017 of the college football season, then today is your lucky day. Tennessee announced Jones had been fired on Sunday afternoon a day after the Volunteers were trounced by Missouri 50-17.

Tennessee has gone 4-6 in 2016, and is 0-6 in SEC Conference play.

In a statement, Tennessee athletic director John Curie said that while Jones had overseen improvements in the areas in academics, the team was "not where we need to be competitively."

Jones was hired by Tennessee in 2013, serving as head coach for five seasons and had an 34-27 overall record. The Vols had winning records in the three seasons preceding the 2017 season, and won its three bowl games in those seasons.

Brady Hoke, who served on Jones' staff as defensive line coordinator, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
