UAB sets June 1 vote on possible reinstatement of football program.

A June 1 date has been set by UAB as to whether it will reinstate its football program. UAB President  Ray Watts announced the plans for the vote on Wednesday.

The school had originally voted to drop football in November of 2014. It was a controversial move, which supporters of the program claim was made due to pressure from members of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, notably then-Board of Trustees member Paul Bryant Jr.

The vote will be made two weeks after the release of a report that will review the economic feasibility of reinstating the football program. The report will review an earlier report that was used in the original decision to shut the Blazers football program down.

A possible reinstatement of the UAB football program may come too late for the team to play in the 2015 season. The earliest the Blazers could return to the gridiron is the 2016 season. The reinstatement of football may allow for UAB to remain in Conference USA, however.
