Dan Mullen's alright. Don't nobody worry 'bout him. The Mississippi State head coach and his staff held a costume party where the coaches and their wives dressed up as characters from summer films. Mullen went to the party as Carl Spackler, Bill Murray's gopher-obsessed greenskeeper from the classic Caddyshack.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution publishes satirical story about Texas A&M installing maroon field at Kyle Field as fact.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is a joke of a newspaper. It's mockingly been said that if the end of the world near, the AJC's headline of the day would read "Coke announces new product."

The AJC hit a new low when it's website published a story first appearing on SB*Nation  announcing that Texas A&M would be installing maroon turf at Kyle Field. The AJC has a syndication deal with SB*Nation, as opposed to hiring real journalists to report on real sports stories.*

A sample of the story.

"Over the weekend, construction crews began installation of the maroon turf that will become the signature of Kyle Field. Previous reports indicated that Kyle Field would return to a natural grass field following the stadium redevelopment, but unfortunately there is not enough time for grass to grow between now and football season. Also, this photo of maroon turf being installed is on the internet, so it must be true."

Which of course it wasn't. The paper's website reprinted in full a satirical article published by SB*Nation's excellent (and hilarious) Texas A&M sports blog, Good Bull Hunting. It was playing along with internet rumors about the school going all Boise State with Kyle Field. GBH made sure it was labeled as such, under the tag "Funny Stuff."

As of Sunday, afternoon on July 27, the  story was still up on, without correction, indication of its satirical nature, or apology on the paper's part for being so stupid.

*Yes, the AJC has writers like Jeff Schultz and Mark Bradley writing for them. If you ever read them, you'd DQ them as "real journalists as well."

Prospect uses faux "baby gator" to announce 2015 commitment to Florida.

You know recruiting prospects giving their verbal commitments for all the world to see have gotten out of hand when a prospect uses a dwarf caiman impersonating an alligator in announcing his commitment to Florida. That's what Cincinnati, Oh. high school rising senior offensive tackle George Brown Jr. did in committing to the Gators on Friday.

Brown's use of a dwarf caiman (a member of the crocodilian family closely related to alligators), was facilitated by the fact that possession of an alligator is apparently illegal in the state of Ohio outside of a zoo. The caiman was provided by a Cincinnati animal rescue and outreach program called Cool Critters Outreach.

Georgia DL Jonathan Taylor arrested on charges of aggravated assault. (UPDATED)

Jonathan Taylor's mugshot from March arrest.

Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor is facing felony aggravated assault charges following his arrest by University of Georgia police

Details are limited at this time, though it was presumably an on-campus incident due to the involvement of the UGA police.

UPDATED 9:00 AM: The Athens Banner-Herald's Mark Weiszer is reporting that Taylor's arrest is the result of an alleged domestic violence incident incident on the UGA campus.

"Police determined that Taylor was the "primary aggressor" in a domestic violence inicdent at McWhorter Hall, according to University of Georgia police chief Jimmy Williamson.

UGA police and EMS were dispatched at 2:47 a.m. to meet a possible victim at Busbee Hall. The call came from a third party. Police met with the victim and third party at Busbee.

There was evidence that the female victim had been "possibly strangled by the offender," in the incident in Taylor's dorm room, Williamson said. There was evidence that the victim and another individual had been involved in an argument in McWhorter Hall, police said. Officers determined an established relationship and "co-habitation" with the individuals."

Weiszer describes the victim as being a UGA student who is not "enrolled in summer school."

This is the second arrest for Taylor this year. He was one of four then-Bulldog players arrested in March on charges of "theft by deception" after they deposited stipend checks from the school electronically, then turning around and cashing them. He was placed in a pre-trial intervention program in June.

Taylor is likely to be automatically suspended for his arrest as per University of Georgia athletic association policy. It is also likely this second arrest will result in Taylor becoming an ex-Georgia DL.

How is Lane Kiffin working out as Alabama's offensive coordinator? Alabama head coach Nick Saban described what former USC head coach is bringing to the Crimson Tide football program.

"Well, I think anytime anybody has knowledge and experience, it certainly contributes a lot of value in your organization," Saban said. "I think it kind of goes both ways. I think you learn a little from them, I think they learn a little from you. I think you can make subtle changes in what you do to make it more effective because of the input you get from your staff.

"The more experience that your staff has, obviously I think the better they understand the big picture and have the kind of foresight that you need to have that you know when you make changes, what the cause and effect of those changes are going to be. Lane certainly has been helpful in a lot of those areas."

Kiffin was hired as Alabama's offensive coordinator in January, four months following his being fired as head coach of USC in September of 2013.
