Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo had been talked about as being a possible candidate for the currently vacant head coaching job at Georgia Southern. The Eagles will be moving up to the FBS as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2014, and are looking for a replacement for Jeff Monken who left to become head coach for Army.

For his part, Bobo is trying to play down the speculation.

“I think we all, well I, aspire to be a head coach one day,” Bobo said. “Where at? I don’t know. I also aspire to win a championship here at the University of Georgia. We’ve been close so many times and I do feel like the ingredients are there. I do feel like Mark Richt is one of the best head coaches in the country. We’re able to get players and have guys that can make plays.”

The big stumbling block for Bobo to take the job down in Statesboro would seem to be money. Bobo makes $575,000 a year at Georgia. Monken has been reported to have been making around $260,000 a year as head coach of the Eagles. Whether GSU would be willing to pay Bobo more to take the job would seem uncertain.
