Is Alabama planning a "blackout" game this season? That's what the Fanatics-hosted official Alabama team store is claiming. It's evidence is a Nike-designed black Alabama jersey currently available online.
The jersey's description goes even further to claim there will be a "blackout" game this season.
"The Crimson Tide are built for hard-hitting, fast-paced gridiron action, and we know that's exactly why you love them. Promote your Alabama gear to a level that'll proudly flaunt your team's skills and your own team dedication with this special Blackout Nike Limited jersey. Designed in the same styling as the gear your favorite players will wear on the field in the 2013 Blackout Game, it features strategic mesh ventilation, embroidered graphics and a tackle twill player number. Congratulations, you just upped your status to Ultimate Alabama Fan!"
Somewhere, Georgia fans are feeling ambivalent at this news.
If the story is true, and Uncle Phil's Misguided Children have finally gotten to Alabama, expect the Crimson Tide faithful's heads to explode, and to express their rage to Paul Finebaum while it happens.
Still, it might be a good thing to maintain a "the voices in your head don't count as reliable sources" attitude towards this until the school makes an official announcement of a "blackout" game. Even then, don't believe it until you see A.J. McCarron running out to the field in a black jersey.
UPDATED: A sports editor for the Alabama school paper The Crimson White says this isn't a jersey for a "blackout" game.
