Pirate of the Mississippi? Mike Leach shows interest in Ole Miss coaching job.

Batten down the electrical sheds! Mike Leach says he'd be interested in replacing Houston Nutt as head football coach at Ole Miss.

"Former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach said Tuesday he hasn't had contact with anyone from Ole Miss, but said he's interested in the pending coaching vacancy created by Monday's firing of Houston Nutt effective at the end of this season.

"I haven't heard from anybody, but I'm not too hard to find," Leach said. "It's a great job. I'm sure the administration has a certain individual it is looking for, and I'm sure they'll find the right guy."

Leach as Ole Miss head football coach would certainly increase the visibility of the school. That visibility would probably be for both on and off the field, however. Ole Miss might like the possibility of the kind of on-the-field excitement Leach brought to Texas Tech. But is Oxford ready for the possible headaches in the manner of Leach's comments on "Fat little girlfriends," his team's Christian players (the "God Squad"), and oh yeah, that whole Adam James thing. After a few of those, the Ole Miss administration might think a twelve game losing streak in the SEC wasn't such a bad thing after all.
