Big Tentacles: Columbus Day Edition

(Big Tentacles is the SWRT look at the Big 10 and the teams it not-so-secretly covets.)

Ohio State's Jim Tressel on being coach of the new #1 ranked team in the country:

"When you take a look at the Top 10 week to week, the precarious nature of any ranking is obvious -- just review the change in the makeup of the Top 10 between the beginning of the season until now," Tressel said. "The Buckeyes know what's it's like to have a target on our back, especially since we are now well into Big Ten play. We expect that every team will give us its best shot. How we respond will determine our ultimate ranking."

Apparently ESPN does know how to do the Madison. ESPN will broadcast ESPN College Gameday from Madison, Wisconsin for the Ohio State-Wisconsin game on October 16. The WWL will also be broadcasting the game that night (Bucky's 5th Quarter)

Same as it ever was? Michigan's loss to Michigan State bring into question how much improved Rich Rodriguez's Wolverines team is from last year, and whether Rich Rod is back on the hot seat again. (Off Tackle Empire)

How efficient of a quarterback is Iowa's Ricky Stanzi? According to a Big Ten press release, America's Quarterback is the conference's most efficient quarterback, and is third in the nation with a rating of 176.85. (Big Ten.org)

"We're talking about practice." Penn State running back  Evan Royster on the Nittnay Lions level of desire in practice:

Asked if the players are showing enough desire in practice, Royster said: "I don't think so. Obviously not. We have to get a sense of urgency, and get out there and stop complaining about long practices.
"The coaches know what's best for us. So, we need to get out there and just stop complaining and just do it."

After last Saturday's loss against Illinois, maybe they're not practicing long enough. (Black Shoe Diaries)
