Clemson and NC State are bowl eligible.

You had one job, Clemson. Go undefeated, and you were certain to be part off the College Football Playoff semifinal. Now losing to Syracuse makes that one job a bit harder.

North Carolina State joined Clemson on the bowl eligibility list, and for now NC State is the leader in the ACC Atlantic.

Bowl projections (unless otherwise noted) are via CBS Sports' Jerry Palm

Six or more wins (Bowl eligible)

ACC Atlantic

North Carolina State (6-1, conference 4-0)

Next three games

Oct. 21 BYE

Oct. 28 @ Notre Dame

Nov. 4 vs Clemson

Nov. 11 @ Boston College

Best chance for a win is against Boston College.

NC State and Clemson face each other in Death Valley on Nov. 4. An upset by the Wolfpack here would torpedo Clemson's already endangered defense of its College Football Playoff title.

Projected bowl

2017 TaxSlayer Bowl (Dec. 30, Jacksonville, FL.)

Projected opponent

Florida

Clemson (6-1, conference 4-1)

Projected bowl

2018 Sugar Bowl (CFP semifinal no. 1 vs no. 4) (Jan. 1, 2018, New Orleans, LA.)

Projected opponent

Alabama

As of now, the hoped for Clemson vs. 'Bama rematch would not be for the CFP title. If Clemson remains wins out the rest of its schedule and wins the ACC title, it's place in the CFP playoff will still depend on the fates of contenders for the title in other conferences.

ACC Coastal

Five wins (Magic number: 1)

ACC Atlantic

None

ACC Costal

Miami (FL) (5-0, conference 3-0)

Next three games

Oct. 21 vs. Syracuse

Oct. 28 @ North Carolina

Nov. 4 vs Virginia Tech

Red Alert! Syracuse Kingslayers headed to Miami this weekend. UNC is the most winnable game of the three.

Projected bowl

2017 Orange Bowl (Dec. 30, Miami, FL.)

Projected opponent

Georgia

The ACC "ICWYDT" bowl projection of the week.

Virginia (5-1, conference 2-0)

Next three games

Oct. 21 vs. Boston College

Oct. 28 @ Pittsburgh

Nov. 4 vs. Georgia Tech

Boston College and Pitt are probably the more winnable of the three games.

Projected bowl

2017 Boca Raton Bowl (Dec. 19, Boca Raton, FL.)

Projected opponent

Marshall

The Boca Raton Bowl is supposed to be an American Athletic Conference vs. C-USA matchup. The Cavaliers would be replacing the American team here. The Quick Lane, Independence, Pinstripe, and Military Bowls should also be in play for Virginia.

Virginia Tech

Next three games

Oct. 21 vs. UNC

Oct. 28 vs. Duke

Nov. 4 @ Miami

All Va. Tech. needs to do it win this Saturday against UNC and its bowl eligible. Of course as my favorite native Minnesotan philosopher said "But that trick never works!"

Projected bowl

2017 Camping World Bowl (Dec. 28, Orlando, FL.)

Projected opponent

Texas Tech

Va. Tech vs. Texas Tech sounds like it could be a good matchup.

Four wins (Magic number: 2)

ACC Atlantic

Syracuse (4-3, conference 2-1)

Next three games

Oct. 21 @ Miami (FL)

Oct. 28 BYE

Nov. 4 @ Florida State

Nov. 11 vs. Wake Forest

If you enjoy the college football chaos engine, then Syracuse is your favorite team this week. The Orange's defeat of reigning CFP title holder Clemson knocked the Tigers out of some prognosticators' CFP final four altogether. Syracuse will be trying to prove that the Clemson win was no fluke as it faces Costal Division leader Miami on Saturday.

FSU and Wake are still the more probable places where Syracuse can find wins.

Projected bowl

2017 Independence Bowl (Dec. 27, Shreveport, LA.)

Projected opponent

Oregon

The Independence Bowl is supposed to be an ACC vs. SEC bowl. Take that as you will.

Wake Forest (4-2, conference 1-2)

Next three games

Oct. 21 @ Georgia Tech

Oct. 28 vs. Louisville

Nov. 4 @ Notre Dame

None of these three games are going to be easy wins. Wake may be looking to later in November to become bowl eligible.

Projected Bowl

2017 Quick Lane Bowl (Dec. 26, Detroit, MI.)

Projected opponent

Central Michigan

This is supposed to be an ACC vs. Big Ten tie-in bowl. So what's a MAC team doing here? Palm not believing that the B1G will have enough bowl eligible teams to go around, apparently.

Louisville (4-3, conference 1-3)

Next three games

Oct. 21 FSU

Oct, 28, @ Wake Forest

Nov. 4 BYE

Nov. 11 Virginia

Louisville is on a two-game losing streak. The Cardinals could use win at disappointing FSU.

Projected bowl

2017 Sun Bowl (Dec. 29, El Paso, TX.)

Projected opponent

Washington State

Bobby Petrino vs Mike Leach? Yes, please.

ACC Costal

Duke (4-3, conference 1-3)

Next three games

Oct. 21 vs. Pitt

Oct. 28 @ Virginia

Nov. 4 BYE

Nov. 11 @ Army

Best chances for a Duke win are probably against Pitt and Army.

Projected bowl

2017 Cure Bowl ( Dec. 16, Orlando, FL)

Projected opponent

University of Alabama-Birmingham

The Cure Bowl is supposed to be an American vs. Sun Belt bowl. Neither Duke or UAB are in The American or the Sun Belt. You do the math.

Three Wins (Magic number: 3)

ACC Atlantic

Boston College (3-4, conference 1-3)

Next three games

Oct. 21 @ Virginia

Oct. 27 vs. FSU

Nov. 4 BYE

Nov. 11 vs. NC State

In any season other than this one, Boston College would probably have a better chance to beat Virginia than FSU. Not that you should expect the Eagles to beat the Seminoles, of course. In fact, you really can't expect the Eagles to beat the Cavaliers or the Wolfpack, either.

Projected bowl (Eric Single. SI.com)

2017 Independence Bowl

Projected opponent

Mississippi State

Single was the only prognosticator I found putting Boston College in a bowl game. Don't hold your breath, at least not right now.

ACC Costal

Georgia Tech

Next three games

Oct. 21 vs. Wake Forest

Oct. 28 @ Clemson

Nov. 4 @ Virginia

Wins against Wake and Virginia are probably doable.

Projected bowl

2017 Military Bowl (Dec. 28, Annapolis, MD.)

Projected opponent

Navy

Another ICWYDT bowl pick. Paul Johnson was Navy's coach from 1995-1996, then from 2002-2007. Whether he makes it to the Military Bowl as Ga. Tech head coach is another thing altogether.
