The teaser trailer for director Luc Besson's upcoming film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets dropped on Thursday. The film is based on the French graphic novel series Valerian and Laureline, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Méziéres.

Valerian is the first time that Besson has directed a space opera-style science fiction film since his masterpiece The Fifth Element, which was also inspired by French science fiction comics, and used concept art produced by the late comics master Jean "Moebius" Giraud.

In the film government operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara  Delevingne) are sent to investigate a potential intergalactic threat in Alpha, a vast intergalactic city inhabited by multiple extraterrestrial species that live and work together for mutual benefit.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets also stars Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rutger Hauer, and Rihanna. It's set for a July 21, 2017 release.
