The Mountain West has five teams that are bowl eligible, one more is a game back from clinching a bowl, and one team need two wins to move into the postseason. The conference still has an outside shot of sending a team to a New Year's Six bowl as the Group of Five representative, but it look as of now more likely to see Western Michigan performing the duties.
Bowl projections come from SB*Nation's Jason Kirk.
Bowl Eligible (6+ wins)
Boise State (8-1)
Bowl Projection: 2016 Las Vegas Bowl (Las Vegas, Nv.) vs, Stanford (Dec. 17)
The loss to Wyoming blew Boise State's New Year's Six bowl hopes out of the sky (for now). At least in the Las Vegas Bowl the Broncos may get a chance to play spoiler in what will probably be Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey's final college football game.
San Diego State (8-1)
Bowl Projection: 2016 Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego, Ca.) vs. BYU (Dec. 21)
CBS Sports' Jerry Palm is projecting San Diego St. as the Group of Five representative in the 2016 Cotton Bowl vs. Penn State. Jason Kirk, on the other hand sees the Aztecs in a more realistic bowl appearance in the Poinsettia Bowl against BYU.
Bowl Projection: 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise Id.) vs. Ohio (Dec. 22)
Wyoming defeats Boise State and what does it get? An invite to the bowl played at the Bronco's home stadium. Life is a cosmic joke.
Ait Force (6-3)
Bowl Projection: 2016 Arizona Bowl vs. Idaho (Dec. 30)
New Mexico (6-3)
Bowl Projection: 2016 New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, NM) vs. Texas-San Antonio (Dec. 17)
On the Brink (4 wins, needs 1 more)
Colorado State (5-4)
Week 11: @ Air Force (Nov. 12)
Colorado St. faces three strong Mountain West teams in a row on the tail end of its schedule. In addition to Air Force, the Rams host New Mexico on Nov. 19, then face San Diego on Nov. 26. Two wins age going to be tough.
Running Out of Days (4 wins, 2 needed)
Week 11: vs Boise State (Nov. 12)
Hawai'i has 1-9 Fresno St. on tap for Nov. 19 following the Boise St. Game, followed by 2-8 UMass. They should give Hawai'i a good shot a t making a bowl.
