Is There A Chance ESPN College GameDay Finally Goes To Washington St. In 2016?

'Ol Crimson, the rather large Washington State flag will most surely be flying high this weekend when the ESPN College GameDay kicks off its 2016 college football season at Lambeau Field, sight of the neutral site meeting of LSU and Wisconsin. The flag has been at every GameDay since Oct. 18, 2003, when Wazzou boosters began a campaign to bring the program to the school's Pullman, Washington campus.

Could 2016 finally be the year Wazzu dreams come true? Napping a GameDay remote will depend on a number of factors, notably how well both the Cougars and their Pac-12 rivals are doing this season. The other big factor is whether or not a more marquee game is on the schedule.

The Cougars play Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, Cal, and Washington at home this season. Of these six games, Oregon  and UCLA may be games that lure Kirk Herbstreit and company to Pullman.

Oregon vs. Washington St. (Oct. 1) The Ducks went 9-4 last season, which is an off year for some. 2016 could be a somewhat of a rebound year for the Ducks, if can get through a year without a solid answer at the quarterback position.

Is there a better option? Oklahoma at TCU could wind up as the big game of the weekend. So could Louisville vs. Clemson. Tennessee vs. Georgia is the week's best classic rivalry game.

UCLA vs. Washington St. (Oct. 15) The Bruins come to Pullman just in time for homecoming. A maturing Josh Rosen could provide the spark needed for GameDay to drop stakes.

Is there a better option? It's the Third Weekend in October, which means the weekend of the annual renewing of the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry. If both teams are undefeated, it will definitely be in the mix for GameDay. It's also the weekend for Stanford vs. Notre Dame, which will be mighty tempting thanks to Stanford's Christian McCaffrey and Notre Dame being Notre Dame.

Arizona vs. Washington St. (Nov. 5) Arizona went 7-6 in 2015, and 3-6 in the Pac-12. This doesn't have any shot of being a marquee game.

Is there a better option? Alabama vs. LSU is the big game this weekend.  Nebraska vs. Ohio St. will be the ABC/ESPN big prime time game. Don't hold your breath fe

Cal vs. Washington St. (Nov. 12) Cal began rebuilding last season under head coach Sonny Dykes. If Davis Webb continues to develop as the Golden Bears' QB, it could make for a tough game for Wazzu.

Is there a better option? Quite a few. Stanford at Oregon, Mississippi State at. Alabama, LSU at Arkansas, Auburn at Georgia. Michigan vs, Iowa is the ABC/ESPN primetime game.

Washington vs. Washington St. The Apple Cup. Possibly the biggest thing Wazzu plays for this season,

Is There a better option? Everybody else rivalry games. Well, not everybody's, but the number of big games this weekend will most assuredly leave Pullman out of the running.
