2015 Cure Bowl Preview: San Jose State Vs. Georgia State.

As much as I would like to make a lot of jukes involving the first annual Cure Bowl, Robert Smith, and goth culture in general, I won't. The Cure Bowl's name is in reference to breast cancer awareness, and proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.

As for the game itself, it will be notable for the first ever bowl game for Georgia State. If you had said three of the four FBS schools in the state of Georgia would go to bowls in 2015 at the start go the season, Georgia St. would probably be the odd school out. As it turned out, Georgia Tech ended up with a disastrous 3-9 season, and Georgia St. became bowl qualified with a win over Georgia Southern that people are still trying to figure out how it happened.

Ga. St. will be facing San Jose State, one of the 5-7 schools with a good APR who managed to get a bowl invitation due to a lack of teams with a 6-6 record. This rather awkward situation brings up the age-old complaint about there being too many bowls, something even NCAA president Mark Emmert has suggested needed to be looked into. Action probably won't happen in the short term, though.

Wait, San Jose St, isn't...
The American didn't have enough bowl eligible teams, and a lack of overall bowl eligible teams led to San Jose St. getting in because of its APR rate.)
