Another starting quarterback competition has bitten the dust. South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier has named sophomore Connor Mitch as the Gamecocks' starting QB for its season opener against North Carolina on Sept. 3.

Mitch saw limited playing time in 2014, throwing for six passes and completing two.

South Carolina will face North Carolina in a neutral-site season opener at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC on Sept. 3. The game is set to air on ESPN at 6:00 PM ET.
