There's one less quarterback competition in college football. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops has announced that Patrick Towles will continue as the starting QB for the Wildcats.

Towles, who struggled late in the 2014 season, has faced stiff competition for the starting QB job in spring practice and through the first week of fall practice from redshirt freshman Drew Barker.

Towles had a 57.3% completion rate in 2014. He admitted that he had struggles during last season.

"There's definitely times where I was uncomfortable last year during the season. And there's no denying that," he said. "Now, having a year under my belt, playing, I've been through it all. I've seen everything. I've been three overtimes in The Swamp and I've been toe to toe with the No. 1 team in the country. I've been there. Nothing's going to surprise me. So I'm excited about going out and playing."

Towles passed for 2,718 yards in 2014, with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He struggled in the final four games in the season, averaging only 185 yds.
