Chad Kelly is an ex-Clemson Tiger. The sophomore quarterback was dismissed from the football program on Monday for what Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney referred to in the usual vague coach-speak as "conduct detrimental to our program."
“I have dismissed Chad Kelly for conduct detrimental to our program,” said Swinney. “He has had a pattern of behavior that is not consistent with the values of our program. I hope he will mature and grow from this and become the man and player I know he can be. I wish him nothing but the best in the future academically and athletically.”
Kelly, the nephew of NFL Hall of Fame QB Jim Kelly, was reportedly escorted out of Clemson's football facility by Clemson University police. There are no reports of Kelly being under arrest or charged with any crimes.
Kelly was benched during the second half of the Tigers' spring game on Saturday. The Charleston Post and Courier reports that Kelly was heard "sniping" at Clemson coaches during the game's fourth corner.
