Report: Vanderbilt hires Derek Mason as its new head football coach.

Vanderbilt seems to have found its man. USA Today's JeffLockridge is reporting that the school has offered its vacant head football coaching position to Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason. Lockridge spoke with Vanderbilt search committee member John Ingram, whom verified the news of Mason's hire.

Mason has served as Stanford DC since 2010. During his time at Stanford, the Cardinal has played in four consecutive BCS bowl games, going 2-2. The Cardinal team has participated in the past two Rose Bowl games, beating Wisconsin in 2013, and losing to Michigan State this past Jan.1.

Mason replaces James Franklin, who left Vanderbilt to become head coach of Penn State.
