Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops declares Alabama QB A.J. McCarron to be "the best player in the country."

A.J. McCarron with Katherine Webb. Just 'cause.

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops had some high praise for Alabama starting quarterback A.J. McCarron. The comments came during a teleconference following the announcement that the Sooners would face the Crimson Tide in the 2014 Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 of next year.

"I think AJ McCarron's the best player in the country," Stoops said on Sunday's Sugar Bowl teleconference. "I really do. If I had a (Heisman) vote, that's who I'd vote for."

Stoops could have actually been McCarron's head coach at one point, had the QB decided to flip his commitment from Alabama to  Oklahoma in 2009.

Stoops and Oklahoma will face in McCarron and Alabama the 2014 Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2.
