Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has made a few adjustments to his coaching staff. Offensive coordinator and running backs coach Clarance McKinney, is being relieved of his OC duties, and being replaced by the Aggies' quarterback coach and co-OC Jake Spavital. McKinney will still handle his RB coaching duties. Spavital will also be the main offensive playcaller for the Aggies.
Spavital served as a graduate assistant under Sumlin at Houston in 2009. He later was on the coaching staffs of Oklahoma State and West Virginia. He joined Sumlin's staff this season, where he was Johnny Manziel's QB coach. His first game as OC will be the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on New Year's Eve.
Other QB's that have been under Spavital's tutelage include Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden, and West Virginia's Geno Smith.
Sumlin also announced that Texas A&M secondary coach Marcel Yates has left his staff to become defensive coordiantor at his alma mater, Boise State.
