Tennessee now aiming for Cincinnati's Butch Jones.

The saga to find the replacement for Derek Dooley continues as Tennessee is now reportedly setting their lowered expectations on Cincinnati head football coach Butch Jones to be the Vols' new HC. This after Jon Gruden, Mike Gundy, and Charlie Strong turned the school down.

Jones has already been headhunted by both Purdue and Colorado, with  no success. It seems there might be some interesting thing going on behind the scenes in this case though.

"The Cincinnati Enquirer said that neither Jones nor athletic director Whit Babcock returned calls for comment all day Thursday. Jones' agent, Trace Armstrong, told the News Sentinel he could not comment on the reports.

The Enquirer reported that the Bearcats called a 7:30 a.m. team meeting for today, although it's not clear when the meeting was scheduled and whether it was meant to address the ongoing coaching rumors or something more routine, like preparations for Cincinnati's trip to the Belk Bowl on Dec. 27."

That's not much, but it is a glimmer of hope for Vols' fans whose emotions have been battered by constant news of rejection this week. If Jones doesn't work out, Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart may have to go to Plan E.
