Are Steve Mariucci and Josh McDaniels showing interest in Arkansas head coaching job?

CoachingSearch.com is reporting a story that Steve Mariucci, the former head football coach of the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions in the NFL, is interested in the Arkansas HC job left vacant by Bobby Petrino's firing. Mariucci was HC of Cal for one year in 1996, so he has some experience in that department. Not a lot, mind you. But beggars can't be choosers at this point, and an ex-NFL head coach is going to make a bigger splash than a HC from a smaller FBS school.

Bonus points for Mariucci: He was the former quarterbacks coach for Green Bay from 1992-1995, where he helped turn Brett Favre into a QB legend. That can't hurt there.

Also reportedly interested in the Arkansas job is New England Patriots offensive coordinator/ex-Denver Broncos HC Josh McDaniels. There's already an Arkansas connection here, with former Razorback quarterback Ryan Mallett holding Tom Brady's clipboard in New England. Whether that's good enough to get McDaniels an interview is unknown. His record as Denver HC probably isn't, though.

UPDATE: Mariucci says his interest in the job is "news to me".
